Cow's Heart
|
This artifact is a cow’s heart which was used in a dissection lab as a part of the internal systems unit. The goal was to open the heart to learn about the parts up close and identity the route the blood takes in the heart. This is significant to me as it gave me an opportunity to hold an animal heart in my hands which I have never done before. This activity helped me learn more about the human heart since they are very similar. It helped expand my thinking as I was able to use my hands to learn. Being able to learn and feel the different parts of the heart, in the real world I can use this knowledge in higher grades especially if I look into going to the medical field. In addition as we were able to use tools such as a scalpel, it would be useful to know these skills if I were to perform a surgery. Therefore, this artifact has a huge impact on my understanding of this unit as it helped with the visualization of the parts which helped remember them and the path the blood flows. I think about the heart as strong and powerful part of our body rather than just an another organ.
